HIDDEN BEAR TRAIL ATV CLUB NEWSLETTER #1, 2022

CLUB MEETING:  Our first membership meeting was held on Saturday June 18th at Animal’s Bear Trail Inn.  A total of 29 members were in attendance.  We had 2 guest speaker’s, Oconto County Recreational Officer Andy Dryja and DNR Warden Jamin Leuzzo.  Both officer provided a very in depth information regarding the new Oconto County ATV Ordinance (which I will discuss later) and also discussed where one wrong decision on our rider’s part can have a negative impact on our sport.  After the meeting we went on our first Club Ride of the year.  We had a total of 13 machines and 20 people (see pictures on our website).  We had lunch at the new Olive Pit Bar & Grill (formerly the Valley Inn).  Lee and his wife did an excellent job serving us and the meal was excellent.  We returned to Animal’s around 4:00 pm with another very successful ride and the weather even cooperated!!!

NEW OCONTO COUNTY ATV ORDINANCE:  As mentioned above I will try to high light some of the changes and many of these were in the ordinance before.  Please try to make time in visiting the Oconto County Website and find ATV Ordinance and play special attn: to Chapter 27.67 OPERATION OF ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLES AND UTILITY TERRAIN VEHICLES ON COUNTY HIGHWAYs.  Now for the highlights:  As reported before all Oconto County Highways north of Hwy 22 are open for ATV/UTV Travel (It does not include any State Highways, i.e. Hwy 32, Hwy 64, Hwy 22 or Hwy 41/141).  The speed limits on these County Hwys for ATV/UTV’s are the posted speed limits for vehicles.  If the County Highway posted speed limit is 55, the ATV/UTV speed limit is 55, the minimum speed limit is 35 MPH.  All ATV or UTV operators must carry proof of Liability Insurance.  Persons 16 years or older must possess a valid driver’s license, no person under the age of 16 may operate an ATV or UTV on County Highways during the hours between sunset and sunrise. No person under 16 years of age is allowed to operate an ATV or UTV unless accompanied by his or her parent or guardian who is at least 18 years of age and possess a valid drivers license.  All ATV/UTV are required to display a lighted headlamp and tail light.  These are some of the highlights, please review entire ATV Ordinance for more info.
